Recovery Cartoons includes a wide range of 12 step recovery related topics including alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, co-dependency, detox, treatment, research, therapy, sponsorship, relationships, sex, literature, courts and jail. These cartoons use humor to depict the principles embodied in each of the 12 steps and 12 traditions as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.). The lives of the main characters are followed through the various stages of recovery in these single-framed, one-liner cartoons.

Ben&Kids Ben Canha, RN, aka Ben Ben the fisherman, has a Master’s Degree in Addictions Nursing from the University of Maryland, where he is currently a clinical instructor the Maryland School of Nursing. He is also a Clinical Research Nurse at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, conducting treatment and research of alcoholics and drug addicts in an in-patient 28 day program.

Ben lectures at medical conferences with a program entitle Humor in Recovery. He presents powerful one hour exercises entitled Honesty and Priorities, facilitating treatment center patients to break through their denial. His personal experience includes his own sobriety date of 1/4/88, active participation in the programs, a wife in recovery and miracle twins born in 2003.

Ben began Recovery Cartoons in 2000 when a good friend noticed Ben’s talent. He has since drawn thousands of cartoons. He published his first book; Recovery Cartoons in 2002, followed by a second book Conference Approved in 2005 and a promotional pamphlet in 2007. Ben would like to widen his audience to include newspapers, magazines, daily calendars and greeting cards.
